FREE STICKERS!! aka Go Vote!

Not to get all political here, but I just wanted to say happy voting day to every one and I hope you all go out and exercise your right to vote today!

Also, when deciding who to vote for I hope you consider the person and not just their party. I'm a registered Republican and I  voted for 2 D's and 1 R today. I'm not going to tell you who specifically (unless you really want to know) because I don't want you to vote for who I voted for. I want you to go do some research, figure out which issues are important to you, and decide which candidate you think is best.
* back flips off soapbox *

Happy Voting!

Dinner Guests -- Round 1.4

And finally, to finish up Round 1, here's the last quarter of the bracket:

Timon (The Lion King)

Hoban “Wash” Washburn (Firefly)

Shawn Spencer (Psych)

The 10th Doctor (Doctor Who)

Professor Minerva McGonagall (Harry Potter)

Raj Koothrappali (The Big Bang Theory)

Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)

Peregrin “Pippin” Took (Lord of the Rings)

Fred Weasley (Harry Potter)

Gandalf the Grey (Lord of the Rings)

Troy Barnes (Community)

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Star Wars)

Samwise Gamgee (Lord of the Rings)

Legolas Greenleaf (Lord of the Rings)

River Song (Doctor Who)

Ozzie P. Boone (Odd Thomas)

Mi selecciones:

Timon v. Wash
Wash is one of my favorite characters of all time, and I think he'd be a fun dinner guest. And he has to bring along is toy dinosaurs.

Shawn v. 10th Doctor
This might be the hardest one this round. The 10th Doctor is my favorite Doctor, and I realize I've already kicked the other two out. Shawn is amazing and funny, but I'd be kind of creeped out at the fact that he'd be able to tell all these personal things about me just by looking at me, let alone my apartment.

McGonagall v. Raj
I think I'll have to go with McGonagall on this one, seeing as Raj would have to be drunk just to talk to me. Also, McGonagall can do magic.

Hermione v. Pippin
While Pippin is my favority hobbit, Hermione is like an old friend to me. (And she'd probably help me cook!)

Fred v. Gandalf
Okay, so I didn't want to knock all the Weasley's out in the first round. And Fred co-instrumented the epic fireworks display at the end of OOTP. (Yes, Gandalf had quite the firework show himself, but Fred's takes the cake since it caused chaos for Umbridge.)

Troy v. Obi-Wan
Okay, so Obi-Wan has a lightsaber, but Troy can make an epic blanket fort. Enough said.

Samwise v. Legolas
Sam is a lovable and loyal character, but Legolas is an elf and I'd guess he has many stories and things to share.

River Song v. Ozzie P. Boone
There wasn't any question about this, though Ozzie is quite the character in his own right. "You've got a time machine. I've got a gun. What the hell. Let's kill Hitler," pretty much sums it up.

To round out the last 8 first round survivors:

Timon (The Lion King)

Hoban “Wash” Washburn (Firefly)

Dinner Guests -- Round 1.3

And since I know you've all been sitting at the edge of your seats, here's the third quarter of the bracket:

Burton “Gus” Guster (Psych)

The 9th Doctor (Doctor Who)

Arthur Dent (Hitchhiker's)

Peach (Finding Nemo)

Stormy Llewellyn (Odd Thomas)

Dori (Finding Nemo)

Jack Shaftoe (The Baroque Cycle)

Yoda (Star Wars)

Arya Stark (Game of Thrones)

Harry Potter (Harry Potter)

Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock Holmes)

Zoë Washburne (Firefly)

Marvin (Hitchhiker's)

Desmond Hume (Lost)

Sirius Black (Harry Potter)

Jubal Early (Firefly)

And, as is now tradition, my picks:

Gus v. 9th Doctor
Gus's amusing facial expressions gives him the edge here, as long as he doesn't talk about pharmaceuticals too much.

Arthur Dent v. Peach
Gotta go with Peach on this one, though I give Arthur credit, not many people can throw themselves at the ground and miss.

Stormy v. Dori
As much as I would love Dori to teach me how to speak whale, I think would be interesting to talk to. I feel like she has some enthralling life philosophies.

Jack v. Yoda
Both would be fun dinner guests, but dinner with Jack would undoubtedly lead to some crazy adventure in a foreign land and maybe a boatload (literally) of gold.

Arya v. Harry
Sorry Harry, I already know your life story and I'd like to see Arya make trouble with the other guests.

Holmes v. Zoë
This one was especially tough, because I hate that I'm sending Zoë home so early (I mean I did name my dog after her...). But I don't think you can easily miss out on dinner with the classic Sherlock Holmes.

Marvin v. Desmond
While Marvin could potentially kill the mood of the dinner, I'm hoping I can reprogram him to say anything I want in the voice of Alan Rickman.

Sirius v. Early
Again, it's tough to send a beloved character home so soon, but Early has too many good one-liners to pass up.

And after Round 1, the third quarter of the bracket:

Dinner Guests -- Round 1.2

To continue the dinner guest selection tournament, here's the second quarter of the bracket:

Captain Malcolm Reynolds (Firefly)

Ford Prefect (Hitchhiker's)

Lisbeth Salander (… Dragon Tattoo)

Hagrid (Harry Potter)

Luke Skywalker (Star Wars)

Professor Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter)

Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter)

Aragorn (Lord of the Rings)

Amy Pond (Doctor Who)

Amy Farrah Fowler (The Big Bang Theory)

Juliet O'Hara (Psych)

Dwight K. Schrute (The Office)

Enoch Root (Multiple...)

Dr. Gregory House (House M.D.)

Rory Williams (Doctor Who)

Eliza de la Zeur (The Baroque Cycle)

And my picks:

Mal v. Ford
While Ford is always the interesting character (and can always be counted on the have a towel handy), I can't see Mal exit this early.

Lisbeth v. Hagrid
Here's to hoping Hagrid can fit in my apartment. And I'm going to have to buy a replacement chair after this.

Luke v. Dumbledore
OK, so Luke blew up the Death Star, but Dumbledore mentored Harry through some pretty rough years and he always has a few good lines to lighten the mood (and he's got style!).

Luna v. Aragorn
While I'd never want to go into battle without him, Aragorn would make kind of a scary dinner guest. Also, Luna is just pure awesomeness and would serve for quite the amusing dinner conversation.

Amy Pond v. Amy Farrah Fowler
The battle of the Amy's. I had to go with Pond on this one. She'll have too many fun stories about hanging out with the Doctor, and Farrah Fowler's humor style might get a little old after a couple hours.

Juliet v. Dwight
This decision was definitely made for dinner only. Juliet would be great to hang out with but it would be fun to see Dwight interact with the other characters. He's only invited if he guarantees to leave at the end of the night.

Enoch Root v. House
While House's humor would amuse me to no end, Enoch Root's mysterious ability to turn up in times centuries apart leaves too many questions.

Rory v. Eliza
Definitely at the top of the toughness list here. Rory is one of my favorite of the Doctor's companions but Eliza would be fun to talk with.

And finally the completed first round for this quarter of the bracket:

Captain Malcolm Reynolds (Firefly)

Ford Prefect (Hitchhiker's)

Enoch Root (Multiple...)

Enoch Root

Dr. Gregory House (House M.D.)

Rory Williams (Doctor Who)

Eliza

Eliza de la Zeur (The Baroque Cycle)

Dinner Guests -- Round 1.1

OK, here's the deal: I'm having a dinner party where I can invite any fictional characters from books, TV, movies, etc. The catch? I only have 3 extra dining room chairs. To help, I've decided to pick my dinner guests bracket-style. I'll then take the final four and eliminate one. I made a list of my top 64 fictional characters (hopefully I didn't forget anyone!) and then randomly placed them on the bracket. This post will choose the first quarter of the bracket. First off here's the bracket:

Kaylee Frye (Firefly)

Abed Nadir (Community)

James “Sawyer” Ford (Lost)

Tyrion Lannister (Game of Thrones)

Neville Longbottom (Harry Potter)

Andrew “Ender” Wiggin (Ender's Game)

River Tam (Firefly)

Rose Tyler (Doctor Who)

George Weasley (Harry Potter)

Han Solo (Star Wars)

Dr. John Watson (Sherlock Holmes)

R2D2 (Star Wars)

Odd Thomas (Odd Thomas)

The 11th Doctor (Doctor Who)

Ron Weasley (Harry Potter)

Leia Organa (Star Wars)

And my picks:

Kaylee v. Abed
While Kaylee is one of the sweetest people in the 'Verse, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to have dinner with Abed (at least this early in the game).

Sawyer v. Tyrion
Sawyer's quick wit and sardastic style made this one a no contest. If he happens to make it to the end, I can't wait to hear the nicknames he gives the other dinner guests.

Neville v. Ender
This was a tough one. I think it mostly boiled down to the fact that I'm not as far along in Ender's series as I would like and I've read and seen the Harry Potter books and movies so much at this point that Neville is like an old friend.

River Tam v. Rose
Another close one, and I think if it was more of a long term thing I would choose Rose, but River is bound to make any evening quite interesting.

George Weasley v. Han Solo
Both of these gentlemen are lovable and humorous, but I'm going to have to go with Han (I mean his ship did make the Kessel Run in under 12 parsecs).

Watson v. R2D2
Sorry Dr. Watson, it's gonna take a lot to beat out my favorite robot. Bleep bloop.

Odd v. 11th Doctor
One of the hardest contests this round, but Odd is one of my favorite characters of all time. And there are two other time lords in the contest. And Odd is the only fry cook who sees dead people (and then, by God, he does something about it).

Ron v. Leia
Another toughy, but I have to go with the bad ass chick. Sorry, Ron, us girls gotta stick together.

And the first quarter of the bracket after Round 1:

Kaylee Frye (Firefly)

Abed Nadir

Abed Nadir (Community)

James “Sawyer” Ford (Lost)

Tyrion Lannister (Game of Thrones)

Dr. John Watson (Sherlock Holmes)

R2D2

R2D2 (Star Wars)

Odd Thomas (Odd Thomas)

The 11th Doctor (Doctor Who)

Ron Weasley (Harry Potter)

Leia Organa
